23.11.2011: 2nd funding period of the SFB 762 has been approved

The Senate Committee on Collaborative Research Centres of the German Research Foundation has approved the second funding period of the Collaborative Research Centre (SFB) 762 during its meeting on November 22nd, 2011.

The SFB 762 is an integral part of one of the MLU's main scientific focuses, the research network "Nanostructured Materials", which is being funded by the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt since 2005. The funding of the SFB for the years 2012 to 2015 amounts to more than ten million euros. All 18 projects of the SFB that have applied for the second funding period, among which are three new projects, were considered eligible by the German Research Foundation (DFG). Partners of the MLU within the SFB 762 are the University of Leipzig and the Max Planck Institute of Microstructre Physics Halle.

During the first funding period, already more than 220 publications in international journals originated from the SFB.

Abstract
18.03.2011: Recent Publication in "Science"

The fundementals for future memory devices are being developed by scientists of the Forschungszentrum Jülich and the Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics in Halle. In a ferroelectric material they for the first time directly observed that the dipoles which carry the information in this material continuously change their orientation and can thus also be arranged circularly, the scientists now report in the renowned journal "Science".
